Hello and welcome to The Compound. Sometimes it’s referred to as Doctor Wahnart’s Compound but you? You usually just call it “home” and if you’re here now, you’ve probably called it home for a while. In the beginning, the Compound had everything you needed in order to survive the zombie outbreak but as time has worn on, those supplies have dwindled, and you and your fellow survivors have had to brave the ravages of the undead in order to find more. On the plus side, it makes for some great team building and having each other’s backs has led to you to develop some strong, almost familial bonds. The world outside the Compound is a chaotic mess of monsters intent on tearing you apart. If you’re lucky, you’ll only run into a Shuffler -they’re slow and sluggish and easy to put down- but if you’re less lucky, you’ll find yourself being followed by a Runner -relatively standard but surprisingly fast-, or worse an Echo – similar to a Runner but with a hard bone layer acting as protection around their head and emitting a creepy clicking noise to help them “see” their surroundings- or a Bomber -a disgustingly bloated thing that spew acidic bile at their prey. And that’s not including any other threat that exists outside the giant concrete fence; the weather, scared and dangerous animals, other humans. Inside the Compound, though, there’s a certain level of confirmed safety. The concrete of the walls that make up the fence sinks low into the dirt, preventing things from sneaking in underneath, and the top is decorated with sharp metal spikes. You have gardens full of fruit and vegetables and chickens that supply eggs and, eventually, meat. There’s running water that’s both hot and cold, power, and a level of security that allows you to sleep at night without fear you’ll wake up to something chewing on your leg. It’s been 834 days since the initial outbreak was declared and you’ve managed to survive this long. Be smart, stay safe and… … Don’t get bitten. credit |
